wordsthatjoinunnecessarilywithotherwords

Ahoy there readers, virtual greetings from, well, me.

Today is wednesday (just thought I would clear that up to begin with- I am on holidays and am out of the habit of using a calendar). This means we are ruminating on all things wordy. The topic you may have worked out (or you may not of, I'm not sure), it is one that has always tickled my fancy.

Words that join with other words. Now I don't wish to sound educated or for you to think I have done any research, but I think I am talking about compound words. More specifically, compound words that appear to be compounded for no reason (ie, not 'playground' but 'beforehand'). What is with that? Who started it (place, date, email address, etc.), and more importantly, who is going to end it? And with what instrument? All valid questions, and with equally valid answers I suspect. In a world now looking to condense sentences for SMS, chat and email purposes, are we heading towards a communication system consisting of whole paragraphs of joined words? Let me, and the head of your local council, know immediately!

Anyway, ponder these massive issues as you meander through the myriad of life. I know I have been challenged to think about the impact of these multi-compounded words in my everyday life. Therefore, comewhatmay, I will henceforth show the wherewithall to include the aforementioned words inspiteof any forseeable need to join words that had hitherto been used only on rare occasions but are, however, nevertheless runofthemill in everyday English language.

Ciao!

Look who's laughing now?

No seriously folks, who is laughing at the moment? People are far too serious these days. As I used to say to people while they walked down the street (before I was moved on by the police)- "turn that frown upside down"!

Hi all!
Long time no blog. What brought on this return of the blog (Part II)? I refer you to the website, tenwithtom.com . There, very recently, reference was made by my good friend Tom about this very blog and how it only had two posts. I detected a written tone of good natured sarcasm. My response: the 3rd amazing post from the dorse.

Much has happened while I was away, I am now engaged to be married in February. I am also nearly a year older, and so are some other people around me. Anyway, as promised in my last post, here is this Tuesday's Top Ten:

Top Ten Excuses for my Year-Long Absence From Blogging:
10) My computer broke down.
9) I slept in.
8) The dog ate my blog.
7) The price of petrol was (and actually still is) too high.
6) I forgot how to log into my bloggy-thingy. (It's true!)
5) Every time I went to write a post, it wasn't one of the days I had a theme for. (See post: 'I'm Back' if confused)
4) I-Pods.
3) My room was too messy.
2) My Grandma told me there was no such thing as computers when she was my age.
1) Blogging doesn't seem as significant when you are writing the next instalment of the Harry Potter series under the pseudonym of J.K. Rowling.

Until next time, and probably between then and now,
I have been Jono Dorse.
Who have you been? Or more precisely, who are you and can you please leave a comment?

Cheers.

I'm back!

Well actually I have been here all along and have been watching all of you watching this page with bated breath, waiting expectantly like a dog waiting for its dinner. Here it is then, the juicy thigh bone, the tender chicken strips, the "Home Brand Beef Dog Food- With Meat". Enjoy!

Which reminds me, thanks to all those who left (increasingly insane) comments about this new enterprise, continue to leave your deposits in the relevant area (but not on the new lounge please).

After considerable thought, I have decided to adopt a mixed approach for future entries, based around the days of the week. Confused? I was, until I realised what I meant. Each day of the week has a different title, giving me opportunities to discuss a range of topics that I enjoy, such as sport, reading and the Japanese economy, while also incorporating your interests, such as sport, reading, and (hopefully) the Japanese economy. I will blog quite randomly on different days so everything gets covered and you remain on your toes and alert but not alarmed. So far, the list reads as follows:
My Monday Mumble
Top Ten Tuesday
Wordwit Wednesday
Thimble 'n' Thread Thursday (???)
Feelgood Friday Funday
Silly and Sporty Saturday
Seriously Sentimental Sunday

Got a suggestion for the sixteenth day of the week? Wondering what I could possibly have planned for Jesday or Xenday? Not sure where Quengziday fits into this scheme? Leave a comment!

Bye

PS: Sorry for treating you (my audience) like a dog in paragraphs one and two. It won't happen again.

Beginnings...

Who would have thought it would begin here? Certainly not I. Having no computer skills, and no real desire to acquire any, I assumed my life was destined to be computer (and hence blog) free. I blame my good friend and housemate, Tom, whose excellent blog has kept me entertained for hours, igniting a hidden passion for internet exploration and creativity.

So where to from here, you ask in a bemused yet somewhat expectant way (Sorry to tell you how you are feeling at this early stage). What can we expect? A very astute question which gives me an indication that I am writing to an intellectual audience. At this point, I have little idea where this blog is going in terms of content and structure. With this in mind, I am kindly giving you (the intellectual reader) an opportunity to suggest some brilliant ideas for future direction. I’ll tackle just about anything, and have a broad range of interests.

Grab this opportunity to influence the world in a big way… Post a suggestion!

Until next time,

Jono Dorse
